Once upon a salty sea lived Anya, the lighthouse keeper. Her home was a tall, round tower that poked its finger at the sky. One day, dark clouds grumbled and the wind howled like a grumpy grandpa. A storm was brewing, the kind that sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
Anya wasn’t scaredy-cat (well, not much!), but she knew this storm was a beast. But guess what? Anya had a super important job! She had to keep the light at the very tippy-top of the lighthouse shining bright. Why? Because that light was like a friendly wink in the dark, helping ships find their way home safe and sound.
Suddenly, the light started to sputter like a tired firefly. Uh oh! It needed more lamp oil, the kind that makes flames dance and glow. Anya knew exactly where to find some – in a special room deep down in the lighthouse belly. But with the wind groaning and the whole tower shaking, going down those creaky stairs felt a bit like riding a grumpy sea monster!
Taking a deep breath (and maybe a tiny bit scared), Anya grabbed the oil and started climbing back up. But then, wham! A giant wave crashed against the lighthouse, rocking it like a toy boat. The oil can went flying, spilling its precious liquid everywhere! Anya felt a lump form in her throat. How could she keep the light shining without any oil?
Just then, she remembered the ships out there, lost and scared in the storm. Giving herself a pep talk (like a superhero!), Anya spotted a dusty rag. With a determined glint in her eye, she cleaned the light and used the last smidge of oil on the rag. It sputtered and sputtered, but then, like magic, a tiny flame flickered back to life!
Right then, the biggest wave Anya had ever seen roared towards the lighthouse. But guess what? The brave little tower held strong, and the tiny flame kept on shining, a beacon of hope in the storm. By the time the sun peeked through the clouds, the storm had grumbled itself to sleep. Anya, a little shaky but very proud, knew she had done something incredible. Even though she was scared, she never gave up and kept the light shining, helping the lost ships find their way home.
See, even the smallest of us can do big things, especially when we’re brave and never give up!
